General Cosmetology

A basic course consisting of a minimum of 1500 clock hours (which may equal forty-three (43) weeks of full-time training) required by the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology. A student completing this course will be prepared to enter the field as a Cosmetologist/Hairstylist. It includes the following minimum curriculum.

Course Outline

115 Hrs.

SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS: sanitation, hair and scalp, skin
and nails

400 Hrs.

PHYSICAL SERVICES: shampoos and rinses, scalp and hair
care, facials and make-up, manicuring and artificial nails

450 Hrs.

CHEMICAL SERVICES: hair coloring, hair lightening,
chemical waving and chemical hair relaxing

360 Hrs.

HAIR DESIGNING: hair shaping, hair styling, thermal
techniques and care and styling of hair pieces

75 Hrs.

BUSINESS PRACTICES: management practices, salon
development, insurance, client records and salesmanship

50 Hrs.

STATE LAW: rules and regulations

50 Hrs.
